The incline on this treadmill would not operate all the way up and down, and when the up button was pushed the display would read 1.5, or something like that, then jump to 10.0 with no significant movement of the incline.
The first step was to calibrate the incline, which was performed by pulling the safety key while the incline was in motion. In this case that was very little motion, so a little difficult. Then after reinserting the safety key the incline should go all the way up and then down in calibration mode.
In this case it did do that on the console, but not mechanically, so that you could now go through the incline levels properly on the console but the incline assembly did not move.
The next step was to remove the incline motor assembly from the treadmill by removing the upper and lower bolts. Once out I tried to operate it out of the treadmill to clear any binding or jamming of the shaft or motor and lubricate the lift shaft. Unfortunately in this case I determined that the motor was dead.
As a further disappointment I learned that NordicTrack was no longer providing replacements for the incline motor assembly for the NordicTrack EXP 1000 S.
